“Toronto-based artist Jon Todd has a new show up at SMASH on Dundas West. An unlikely mixture of Mexican lucha libre and Japanese Samurai symbolism, it’d probably be fair to place these works within the general trajectory of pop surrealism if it wasn’t for the fact that no one seems to like to be labeled this way nowadays. The highlight of the show is a true-to-scale wrestling ring featuring an image of Jake The Snake Robert, one of the artist’s childhood heroes. In addition to his solo work, a 16 foot mural created with the help of other artists was unveiled at the May 27th opening”

“The owners of this small, 1940’s waterfront shack approached Studio Twenty Seven Architecture with a desire for renovations to improve the livability of their weekend getaway. The existing home was dank and in extremely poor condition. In addition, the shack did not take advantage of the available panoramic river views. Studio Twenty Seven Architecture proposed building a new house for the same cost of improving the old shack.”

Posters made with environmentally friendly, water-soluble ink were placed above wild postings around Vancouver. When it rained, the ink bled onto posters below, showing how oil spills affect everyone.

Nobuhiro Nakanishi captured these horizons in 3D and cut them out in sheets of glass plates.

Ice sculptures were made using a series of handmade clay molds. Soldering irons were used for details. Lighting was solely provided by TV’s/Christmas Lights. Filmed all practically, NO CGI, in a normal two car garage for a little over $200 dollars.

This modern designed house boat, named Silberfish, translation – Silver Fish, floats on a platform and ties up at your local bay or harbor to be in harmony with the laping of water while being in gently swayed like a giant waterbed.  Open water is definitely not the place for this residence.   Complete with a cool and super sleek design, furnishings, an upstairs, bathroom, sundecks and lawn.”
